China
Flight was supposed to be 4p SEA to Shanghai. Got delayed 30min at a time till 8pm, got on the flight, and waited an hour on the plane until they said can't fix plane and flight delayed till 7am next morning. We had to get a hotel at the airport and thankfully W slept, but I don't think I slept at all, worried about missing the shuttle/flight next morning. Missed hotel in Shanghai and train to Hangzhou. What a headache.
Hangzhou:
Nice to stay with aunt because she was our tour guide. Climbed mountain near aunt's house. 12 Zodiac rocks. Saw some old people playing mahjong, card games, birds, Wushu.
Lunch with cousin W and her family (husband, son xin xin, Big aunt and her husband)
So much yummy fine dinning food.
Walked around famous West Lake a bit but insane amount of people because mid autumn festival.
Wuhu: cousin C invited us to Wuhu's oldest and best restaurant. about 20 dishes for 10 ppl. So much insanely beautiful and yummy food. Waygu beef had a sheet on top that lit on fire and disappeared and dry ice was involved in another dish.
Walked along river at Wuhu
Went to my dad's old house location. Now it's a tourist location in Wuhu Ancient Town. Now it's a coffee shop. Apparently it was the nicest house in the area. Still...mom told stories of staying over there in the past and hearing rats scurrying around.
Also went to dad's old elementary school. Uncle told stories about how smart my dad was as a kid. I don't doubt it.
Visited grandmother's tomb: beautiful hillside with view of Qiantang Jiang. This trip was meant for W or J to meet grandmother, but sadly she passed away July 4th, 2026
9 xi 18 jie (Nine Creeks in Misty Forest): W's favorite in Hangzhou
Forest with 9 creek crossings and tea terraces.
Lunch at Longjing with view of tea terraces and delicious freshly cooked meal
Bike around West lake
Soooo many mosquitoes! In the 4 days I was there, I got 31 mosquito bites!
