Our return flight was cancelled due to the Freeze

So we joined YW's parents in Death valley.

Badwater basin: 282ft below sea level.  Lowest in north America.

134 degrees F, hottest place on earth!

Zabriskie point:

AB: "It's like marble cake!"

Once lake filled death valley. Fine silt, volcanic ash deposited on the bottom with clay, sandstone and siltstone. Volcanic activity: lava that ooze out onto ancient lakebed.

Ubehebe Carter 1 hr from furnace creek campground: 2k years old, half mile across, 500ft deep. Intense pressure builds steam and rock explode to create the crater. 1.5mi rim walk was really fun: get to see Little Hebe (smaller craters), and a 360 view of the crater.

Mosaic canyon: 3mi rt

Noonday dolomite. Patterns of swirling marble
